John is mentioned in father Thomas' will1362. John Barkley's grave is also listed840 in Old Bostwick Lake Cem., Bostwick Lake, Kent Co., MI. It is likely that those cemeteries are one and the same. Of John and Martha's family, Moore2516 says it was a large family and "scattered."

Moore2516 has John Barkley's wife as daughter of John Haines. In 1860, Martha Barkley, age 72, b NY, was living with her daughter Mary, Mary's husband Nathaniel Higby, and their twin sons Aaron and Elmore. Martha's gravestone lists her age at death as 83.

Moffat appears to be the sole source for "Haines" Barkley. Several references have "Byard H," "H Byard" and "Byard Haines" Barkley. It may be that Moffat found references or mentions of a Haines Barkley which, in fact, referred to Byard Barkley.

In 1860, "Mehetable" Barkley, born ~1822, NY, appears with John Barkley, born ~1797, NY, in the household of William and Mariah Youngs, in Cannon, MI. In 1880, "Mahetbel" Barkley, born 1822~, NY, parents born NY, sister-in-law, is residing with Joseph and Permilia Moore.
