Married891 1869 Nov451. Conveniently, the 1870 census451 for New York, NY, lists Alfred and Elizabeth Barckley[sic] as married within the last year, in November. In 1900891, Alfred and Esther had been married 30 years. The census records indicate that Alfred and Esther had no children. Several times (1900, 1910) Esther is listed as the mother of none.
In 1880, Alfred is a bonnet maker. In 1900, he is partner in a millinery firm. In 1910, his occupation is buyer of millinery. In 1930, Alfred, age 73, is retired. In 1930, Alfred, widowed, is an insurance broker. In 1939, a newspaper article1592, reports the celebration of Alfred's 95th birthday by the Park Slope Congregational Church (Brooklyn) Sunday School. That article states that Alfred was president of the board of trustees of the church, walked two miles daily and had retired from the insurance business at age 90. Alfred died later that year1593, his funeral service conducted at the same church, and he was buried in Green-wood cemetery1239 26 Sep 1939.

Esther's middle name is given in her death notice1595, cemetery burial record1239, and her death index4059 entry. The latter lists her parents, including her mother's maiden name. Esther's maiden name is listed4059 in the death entry for Alfred Barclay as well.
