James' brother Dominicus married Mary Jane Veazie's sister Martha. In 1880, James (widower) and James' son Charles were living with James' brother Dominicus.
James occupation early on was as a farmer. However, in 1866, he is listed as a clock repairer in the Elmira directory, and as a jeweler2996 in the 1892 census. He appears to have continued that work the rest of his life.
In 1850, Mary Jane, James and their son Charles appear to be living with Mary Jane's brother Isaac, and Isaac's son Alvin, in Corrinna.
