Married¹⁵²³ 1888 Jul 9¹⁵²³ at Flint, Michigan¹⁵²³. The marriage record for Daniel and Caroline lists Caroline as "Caroline Capling Barkley" and her birth as ~1850, Canada. In addition, a Caroline Clayton, born ~1849, Canada, is living as a "servant" in the household of Burr Barkley, who would have been Burr's cousin Josiah N Barkley's wife. From this, it is assumed that Caroline was the widow of Josiah N Barkley.

Following Josiah's death, Caroline married Daniel Clayton¹⁵²³. In 1900¹⁶⁸⁷, Caroline Clayton is a widow with a daughter Mamie Clayton. In 1920¹⁶⁶⁹, a Caroline Clayton, age 72, widowed and born in Canada, is living with Burr Barkley. That Caroline was likely the wife of his cousin Josiah N Barkley.
