Edgar was variously chief of police, sheriff and marshall in and around Goshen, Indiana. However, in 1915, he pleaded guilty2089 to extortion in the levying and collecting of fees in police courts. As a result, he was fined $25 and sentenced to five days in jail.
His obituary4601 states he died at 11:30AM at his home, 310 North Main Street (Goshen, IN). As he had suffered for several months with hardening of the arteries, Bright's disease, and high blood pressure, his death was expected. As a result of his illness, he had been compelled, early the previous fall, to abandon his taxi line business. Edgar was a Mason, and a member of the First Reformer Church.
Following Edgar's death, the Goshen Daily Democrat, May 26, 1920, printed a card of thanks for kindnesses extended during the illness and death of Edgar J Vesey from Martha Vesey & son, Victor Vesey. (also) Lloyd, Onello B., Richard, Vernon, Mabel and Irene Vesey.
Martha was one of (at least) nine children of Joseph Weaver and Annie (Hooper)800. Her middle name appears on the marriage certificate2072 for son Victor Vesey and Maxine Wortinger.
