James Madison Vesey, listed as "Madison" in the censuses, but "James" and "James M" in other records, was born ~1835 in (prob) Perry, Ohio. Cone4960 provides (without reference) an exact date. He enlisted1993 17 Feb 1864 in Company K, Wisconsin 35th Infantry Regiment. The regiment went in April of that year to Port Hudson, LA, for guard and picket duty. On June 27, James died of inflammation of the lungs and was buried181 the same day in what would become the Port Hudson National Cemetery, Zachary, Louisiana. On Oct 3, 1864, his widow, Margaret A Vesey, filed for his pension. Following Margaret's marriage2095 1 Aug 1868 to Stephen C Wiggin, "M A Wiggin" refiled1007 for James' pension on Oct 12, 1868.

In 1870, Margaret appears as Margarette Wiggins, b NY, in the household of Stephen C Wiggins, with the two son of James Madison and Margaret: Charles M, age 9, b Wisconsin, and William M, age 6, b Wisconsin.

Margaret's parents are listed in the marriage record2095 for her and Stephen C Wiggin(s). Margaret and Stephen were married 1 Aug 1868 in Sheboygan. Stephen was born in New Hampshire to George W & Ann M Wiggins.

A headstone840 in Winooski Cem., Plymouth, WI, has "Elmer E Son of James M [or James & M] VESEY Died Mar 17 1860 AE 5ms." From the age, date, location, and father's name, it is assumed Elmer was a child of James & Margaret Vesey.
