Joseph's middle name is given in his birth1711 record. In the 1900 census, Joseph and Henrietta appear as husband and wife, his occupation foreman of a granite quarry. In 1910, Joseph is enumerated as "J Edward." He is listed as married twice, having been married at that time for 20 years. His first wife has not been identified. In that 1910 census, Joseph was the manager of a town farm, which was likely a "poor farm" as, along with Joseph, Henrietta and their children, there were listed several elderly people and a mother of 2 children (no husband in evidence). Joseph died of maxillary cancer. At the time of his death, he was married and had been a resident of Vinalhaven for 43 years, his previsous residence being Camden.
