Yaro's father, Vaclav (James) Skalnik, was, at one time, apprenticed to a locksmith in Vienna. He emigrated in 1907, sailing on the S. S. Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse from Bremen to New York, arriving May 2 to join his brother Josef in Cleveland.

Yaro's father Vaclav married Marie Cerveny in June of 1913 and was naturalized 17 July 1929 in Cleveland, OH.

Yaro's parents had children: Helen (1916), Yaro (1918) and Vilma (1929). Following daughter Helen's early death about 1925, Jim and Marie decided to have another child. Thus the gap in birthdates between Yaro and his sister Vilma.

Yaro enlisted 170 May 1942 in Cleveland. Yaro remained in Army Intelligence, working in the Pentagon until his retirement.

Alice graduated cum laude from Keuka College (Keuka Park, NY), and graduated with a Master's Degree in French from Penn State University. She taught at Romulus and Hornell, NY. Alice L Veazie was listed in the first yearbook (1936), The Arrowhead, Romulus Central school, Romulus, NY, as a faculty member teaching French, Latin and history. She is also mentioned as one of two directors of the Senior class play, "Good Morning Glory," presented Nov 26, 1935; she directed the Junior class play, "Look Who's Here," Apr 9, 1936.

Before her marriage to Yaro, Alice enlisted170 Apr, 1943, in Binghamton, NY, in the Womens Army Corp. In Dec, 1943, Private Alice Veazie completed a five week course of basic training at the second WAC training center in Daytona Beach, FL, and awaited assignment to an Army post.

Before leaving the service, Alice was a 1st Lieutenant.
