Jane GILLESPIE b. 1826~2650 at New York2650. d. 1876 Mar 24840. bd. Albany Rural Cem., Menards, NY840.

Married2650 3).

In 1870, Jane G Van Zandt is enumerated with William Van Zandt and several of his children. Jane's headstone840 gives her maiden name.

William's full name is given in his obituary2652. Albany Rural Cemetery records2651 record 4 candidates for his wives, all buried in William's plot (lot 53, section 40): Catharine, 1811-1845; Eshter A, 1822-1854; Louisa M, 1821-1849; and Jane J, 1821-1876. Of the four, Louisa was not clearly one of his wives. Headstones840 for Catharine and Jane each indicate William as their spouse. Esther appears in the 1850 census1901 and is likely a wife and mother of one or more of his children.

Deed transactions2860, one in 1860 and one in 1867, list as the Grantor "Van Zandt, William W., wife Jane G." Jane's age is enumerated variously as 41y in 1860, 44y in 1870, and 55y at her death in 1876. In a legal notice, Lockport (NY) Daily Journal, Sat, Apr 2, 1873 (fultonhistory.com), Jane Van Zandt is mentioned as executrix of William W Van Zandt, deceased, in a claim filed by David Miller, plaintiff. In 1902, Margaret W Gillespie (likely Jane's sister), who, in 1870, was living with William and Jane G Van Zandt, is mentioned in the Locport Journal as the executrix for Jane G Van Zandt. Jane's will was to be proofed2696 in Lockport, NY, May 15, 1876, in the Surrogate's Court. Among those summoned were Thomas Gillespie, Mary A Kidd, Margaret W Gillespie, Elizabeth A Enos, and Edward C Gillespie, William M Gillespie. Robert Dunlap was mentioned as the executor. If Margaret Gillespie was her sister, it may be that Jane and Margaret were the daughters of Hugh and Margaret Gillespie, both born Ireland, that appear in Albany1856, NY, in 1850.
