In 1930, Loyal and Edna had been married 16 years. As no specific record of their marriage has been located, this marriage is circumstantial but likely, as follows: Edna Van Zandt was born²⁶³⁵ 13 Jun 1891; the Social Security Death Index⁹² lists the birthdate of Edna Powers as 13 Jun 1892; Loyal and Edna Powers had a son named Richard Van Zandt Powers, possibly indicating his mother's maiden name.

Loyal's middle is given in the announcement²⁷⁷⁴ of his daughter's marriage to A W Petrikat. Loyal Powers was a clerk for a telephone company.

The 1900 census lists Edna's birthdate as Jun 1892.

In 1930, Richard V Powers is listed as age 9 and 6 months. Richard's Florida death index³¹⁵ entry lists his middle name as "Vanzandt." His WWII enlistment information²⁴⁷⁵ lists his name as Richard V Z Powers. He enlisted in the U S Army 4 Aug 1942, Newark, NJ. At that time he had 4 years of high school education, was a stock clerk and married.
