Family of Samuel VEAZIE and Bridget COOMBS

Samuel Veazie and Bridget Coombs were probably married about 1802 or 1803, probably in Islesboro, Maine, as their first child was born in August, 1804, and both the Veazie and Coomb families lived in Islesboro up to that time.

Groves⁵⁴⁴³, pages 1 and 2, lists the names and birth dates for the 12 "Samuel Veze Children," as well as the death dates for "Mr Samuel Veazie" and "Mrs Briget Veazie." Groves is the preferred source for those births and deaths.

Farrow³⁹⁵ lists a gravestone for Samuel Veazie in a cemetery "of the east side, upper end" of the island of Islesboro, death date Dec 2, 1841, aged 62 years. That cemetery is elsewhere identified as "Bay View" cemetery.

In 1850, Bridget was listed in the household of William F. Veazie in Islesboro. Groves⁵⁴⁴³, p 2, has "Mrs Briget Veazie Died April 28th 1858." Farrow³⁹⁵ lists a gravestone for Bridget, wife of Samuel Veazie, in a cemetery "of the east side, upper end" of the island of Islesboro with the information "died Apr. 28, 1858, aged 69 years, 11 mo., 18 days." In Chapter X of his book, he states Bridget died April 12, 1854 at the same age.

Child 4. Wales

Farrow³⁹⁸ has Wales Veazie died in Hingham, Mass. October 7, 1864. Perhaps a mixup of some sort, as the Columbian Centinel⁴²²⁵ reported Jan 1, 1834, that Capt Wales Veazie died in Hingham, aged 24. As there appears to be no other records for this Wales Veazie after his birth, and the latter death report matches Wales Veazie's birth year, the latter is preferred.
