Although his birthdate is listed in 1900 as Oct 1854, the 1855 census (enumerated in June), his age is listed as 2 years, indicating a birth year of 1853. Other census records indicate 1853 is more likely the correct year for his birth. In 1870, David, residing with his widowed mother, worked in a wool mill. In 1880, David was the head of household, consisting of himself, brother "Benjamin," sister Emma, brother "Joseph," and sister Frances. David worked in a woolen mill. In 1900, David's occupation is listed as "mouldin room" (sic). His death date is estimated from the date of the proof of his will4307, Sep 26, 1905.

The marriage record1570 for daughter Edith and Frank Gibson lists Sarah's maiden name and birthplace. The will4307 of David A Sears mentions wife "Sarah May Sears," and appoints her executrix. In 1920, Sarah, now widowed, resided in the household of her son-in-law Frank Gibson, and her daughter Edith Gibson.
