Family of Charles Gaston BARCLAY and Mildred Lawrence MARSH

Charles Gaston BARCLAY b. 1890 Jan 184337 at Yonkers, NY4335. d. 1949 Jun 293346.
Mildred Lawrence MARSH b. 1894 Sep 214337 at Brooklyn, NY4337.

Married4337 1919 Oct~4339. The marriage license for Charles and Mildred was granted4339 on or before Oct 4, 1919. In 1931, Charles and Mildred appear in a passenger list4337 as husband and wife. That list provides their birthdates and birthplaces.

Charles' WWI draft registration card provides his full name, birthdate and birthplace. In 1910, Charles, residing with his mother and sister, was a clerk for an electric company. Charles is listed1735 in the 1916 Yonkers city directory, a clerk in New York, residing with his widowed mother in Yonkers.

A 1931 passenger list4337 for a ship returning from Bermuda to the Port of New York, lists Charles G and Mrs Mildred Barclay as residing at the same address, 123 W 57 St, NYC. In 1940, Charles, wife Mildred and daughter Vivian resided at 24 West 59th St in Manhattan. He was manager of an apartment house.

In 1942, Charles lists170 his residence as 341 West 87 St, NY, NY. That card listed Lester W Marsh (rather than his spouse) as someone who would know his address. Interestingly, the WWII draft registration for Lester W Marsh lists Mrs Mildred Barclay (of 341 West 87 St) as a person who would know his address.

Mildred's full name is provided4339 in the listing of marriage licenses granted on or about Oct 4, 1919, Brooklyn, NY. Her birthdate appears on a passenger list4337 for a cruise she took with Charles.

Determing Mildred's parents initially proved to be difficult. However, in a convenient coincidence, the WWII draft registration card170 for Mildred's husband Charles lists Lester W Marsh as a person who will know his address. The WWII draft registration card for Lester W Marsh lists Mrs Mildred Barclay as a person who would know Lester's address. That card also provides Lester's birthdate, Feb 19, 1889. Assuming Lester was a close relative of Mildred, one finds, in the 1900 census for Manhattan334, the family of Alfred L Marks. Among the children listed are son Lester, born Feb 1889, and Millie L, born Sep 1894.

The Yonkers (NY) Statesman, Oct 4, 1924, mentions Vivian Mildred Barclay whose name had been presented "for the baby roll" at a meeting of the Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary Society of the Park Hill Reformed Church.
