Family of Thomas LOVIS and Lydia VEAZIE

Thomas LOVIS d. bef 18654510.
Lydia VEAZIE b. 1796 Nov 21937 at Braintree, MA937. d. 1823~4510.

Married4510 1820?4835. In an 1865 affidavit4510 by Lydia's sister Susan, Susan (Veazie) Mason states that her sister married Thomas Lovis, "formerly of Boston." Perhaps this is the marriage4835 of Thomas Lovis to "Lucy Vezie" in Boston, Feb 13, 1820.

An 1865 affidavit by the sister of Thomas' wife Lydia, Susan (Veazie) Mason, says of Thomas: "formerly of Boston, deceased." Susan Mason states Lydia and Thomas had only one child. A Thomas Lovis resided (1840 census for Boston) in Boston in 1840. That record lists one male, age 15 & <20; one male, 40 & <50; one female 15 & <20; and one female 40 & <50. Perhaps Thomas remarried following Lydia's death and those children represent his son by Lydia, and a daughter by his second wife.

An 1865 affidavit4510 by Lydia's sister Susan provides the name of Lydia's husband and child. Susan states that her sister Lydia died about 1823.

Hillman800 has Lydia mentioned in a deed to her father 1815.

Child 1. Francis

An 1865 affidavit4510 by Susan (Veazie) Mason, Lydia (Veazie) Lovis' sister, states that Francis Lovis, son of Thomas and Lydia, was the only child of that union; that Francis lived to become of age, became a lawyer practicing in Boston, and "removed to the West, where he died." Francis is likely the Francis Lovis, appearing in the 1855 census for Boston, a lawyer, age 32, born Mass, residing in the dwelling of F A Lang, possibly a boarding house as the other residents appear varied in name, age and occupation. His estimated birthyear is based on that information. He is perhaps the Francis A Lovis, age 25, no occupation listed, born Massachusetts, residing in the household of Jane Langdon, age 24, in the 1850 census for Boston, Mass., twelfth ward. In 1885 (Mass State Census, Boston, Ward 8,) a Francis Lovis, age 32, lawyer, born Mass., resided in what appears to be a boarding house. A Francis A Lovis applied for a passport (U.S. Passport Applications, 1795-1925; ancestry.com) Feb 11, 1850 (51?), in Boston. He stated he was born in Boston, and his age was 26 years. A Francis Augustine Lovis appears in the Boston Public Latin School catalog (U.S., School Catalogs, 1795-1935; ancestry.com) in the class of 1837, "lawyer." An asterisk precedes his name, possibly indicating that he was deceased. That may be a bit young for the Franics Lovis of this profile. A Francis Lovis (findagrave.com, no image of gravestone) is listed for Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma, California, with a death or interment date of Feb 3, 1861.
