The 1850 census4672 for Rotterdam, NY, lists James H Allen, wife Mary (age 31), Sarah (age 10) and Sarah's siblings John Harriet and Daniel; all were born in New York. An adjacent residence lists Elizabeth and Sarah Schermehorn, ages 41 and 38 respectively. The 1860 census4671 for Sherman, MI, just north of Sturgis, MI, lists J H Allen, wife Mary, Sarah (age 18), Sarah's siblings John, Harriet, Daniel, Alida, Ann and George; all were born in New York. The death certificate(\super 2188} for Eva Alida Patterson, born 1842, lists her parents as Harvey Allen and Mary Schmerhorn. From that information, it is assumed that Sarah Allen was the daughter of James Harvey and Mary (Schmerhorn - sp?) Allen.
