The 1865 census⁵⁰²⁴ lists William's birthplace as Yates Co., NY. A listing²⁸ in the Steuben Co. Historian's Office has William's birthplace as Campbell. As the source for the latter is unknown, Yates County is preferred.

William's occupation was farming.

Sometime between 1865 and 1870, William and his family moved to Waverly, Iowa, where William and Sylvia apparently spent the rest of their lives.

Sylvia resided³²⁴⁵ with her widowed son-in-law Hollis Houghton in Waverly, IA, in 1900.

Per information from the Steuben Co. Historian's Office (Marion Springer), Semantha died young.

Child 3. Myron

The image of the monument⁸⁴⁰ for Myron J Mattason in Harlington Cem., Waverly, IA, appears to read: "Myron J Son of W B & S E Mattason Died Mar 14 1877 Aged 23 Yrs 6 Mos 17 Days." His birthdate is calculated from that information.
