Both John and Florence Ames are buried840 in Frederick, Oklahoma.
John was a life insurance salesman, as indicated by the 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930 census records.
In 1930, John, a widower, resided4753 with his daughter Virginia in the household of his son-in-law Lorance F Dean. The obituary4755 for John Ames mentions surviving daughter, Mrs Lorance Dean o Winters, Texas.
A newspaper article4757, in a column "What's In a Name?" provides a general biography of Dr Julio Ames. Without reference, that article mentions that Dr Ames and Esther Ann Crawford had two children, Mary and John; John married Florence Hayden, sister of the late George Hayden of Montour Falls. That article also states that Julio Ames resided in Missouri at the beginning of the Civil War in 1861, implying that son John may have been born in Missouri. Most references indicate he was born in New York state, but, in 1910, he is listed1286 as born in Missouri.
A clipping4754 from an unknown, undated newspaper relates the story of the family and descendants of Judge John Crawford of Dix, New York. Judge John Crawford and Mary Catlin, daughter of Judge Phineas Catlin, had a daughter Esther Crawford. Esther married Dr Julio Ames, resided in Montour Falls, NY, and had a son John. John and a friend Frank Severn "both became blind about the same time although John Ames was blinded in only one eye from a jackknife accident. [John] is now entirely blind and at the age of 92 is a resident of the Masonic Home in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He was a New York Life Insurance salesman for many years."
Julio (physician, born Vermont) and Ester(sic) Ames resided2824 in Montour, NY. Residing with them were John C Ames, age 8, and Mary M Ames, age 10. In various census records, the birthplace for John's father is listed as Vermont. The obituary4755 for John Ames states that he resided in the Masonic Home at Guthrie for many years and died at the age of 96.
The above information makes it probable that John's parents were Julio Ames and Esther Crawford.
Florence appears in records variously as "Virginia," "Florence," and "Florence V." She appears primarily as "Florence V."
In 1860, Virginia Hayden, residing1858 with her parents Cyrus and Mary J Hayden, is listed as age 2. However, in 1900, residing4751 with her husband John C Ames and daughter Mary, Florence V Ames is listed as born Dec 1861.
She apparently died after 1920 and before 1930, as husband John appears in 1930 as a widower.
