Carter served¹⁸¹⁷ in the U. S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars. The San Antonio (TX) Light, Mon, Oct 25, 1954 (newspaperarchive.com), reported that Carter N Riggins was attending the U. S. Naval Interior Communications Electrician school at San Diego, CA. The same newspaper, Thur, Oct 19, 1971 (newspaperarchive.com), reported that Carter N Riggins, son of Mr and Mrs Hughes Riggins, 1810 E Byron, an interior communications electrician second class, was serving aboard the submarine USS Irez, operating with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean.

In 1962, the New London, CT, city directory¹⁷³⁵ listed Marlene U Eaton at the same address as her parents and siblings. In 1963, the directory conventiently listed "Eaton, Marlene U married Carter Riggins rem to California."
