Family of Joseph VEAZIE and Sarah GIBBS

Joseph VEAZIE b. 1747 Apr 12989 at (bapt Hollis St Ch), Boston, MA989. d. bef 17934502.
Sarah GIBBS d. bef 1790853.

Married853 1771 Jul 9853 at Boston, MA853. The marriage record853 has "Joseph Vesy & Sarah Gibbs." At present, there is no direct indication that this Joseph Veazie was the son of Joseph and Jerusha Veazie. However, Suffolk (MA) Deeds 182:84 4502, has Joseph Vesy, wife Sarah Gibbs, buying land from John Gibbs.

Various records refer to Joseph as a mariner. Perhaps he is the Joseph Veasey mentioned5206 in Mass. Soldiers and Sailors, p 303: Master, on board the armed ship "Deane," commanded by Capt Elisha Hinman; a list of officers and crew, dated Boston, Nov., 1780, has: age 40 yrs, light complexion, occupation mariner, reported as belonging to Massachusetts.

Joseph's death date is assumed from the Thwing Collection4502 entry for Joseph Story (refcode 56574) which has Joseph Story and Martha Vesey, widow of Joseph Vesey, deeded land Oct 28, 1793.

It is assumed Sarah (Gibbs) Veazie died before Joseph's second marriage in 1790 to Martha Welch. Hillman800 surmises that she may be the Sarah Vesey, age 38, buried Boston Christ Church, 1 October 1784 (referencing Clark's Register, Boston Christ Church, MS, NEHGS Mss 990, 197.)
