The obituary³⁰⁷² of Robert Richards provides a nice biography for Richard and Harriet (Cross) Richards. They were both born in England and were married at Shortage Church, London, July 4, 1828. In 1830, Richard, Harriet and two children removed to New Hartford, Oneida Co., NY. In 1833, they moved to Caton, NY, and Richards purchased seventy-five acres of timbered land, cleared it and made a good farm. His wife died on the farm Mar 1, 1867.

Harriet's maiden name, death date and location are given in the obituary³⁰⁷² of her husband, Robert Richards. Her headstone²⁰¹ has her death year a 1863.
