Family of Thomas R SLATER and Ellen MCGOWAN

Thomas R SLATER b. 1810~5554 at New York5554.
Ellen MCGOWAN b. 1816~5570 at Mamaroneck, Westchester Co., NY797. d. 1888 Mar 14989 at 2229 Emerald St, Philadelphia, PA4989. bd. North Cedar Hill Cemetery, Phila., PA4989.

Married797 1835~. The marriage date for Ellen McGowan and Thomas Slater is a guess, based on the approx. birth year of daughter Mary.

Thomas R Slater married4059 6039 frist Agnes Ann Weismuller, with whom he had (at least) 3 children: Eliza Jane, Ephraim Depuy, and John. Their date of marriage is assumed from the birth date of daughter Eliza Jane.

In 1850, Thomas R Slater appears5554 as head of household in Stockport, NY. Residing with him were (assumed wife) Ellen (age 35), Eliza (age 19), Ephraim (age 17), John (age 15), Mary (age 13), and Sarah Frances (12). From the approx. birth dates of the first 3 children listed, it is assumed those are the children listed6039 in birth/baptism records with parents Thomas Sheighter? and Ann Weismuller. The latter two children are assumed to be the children of Thomas and Ellen (McGowan) Slater.

That Ellen Slater is the daughter of James McGowan and Clarisa Lockwood, is circumstantial, assumed from the following. 1) In 1880, Ellen Slater, age 64, is listed5570 as "sister" to head-of-household Leonard Ferris, Leonard's wife being Elizabeth, age 67. The death certificate5569 for Elizabeth Ferris lists her parents as James and Claris (Lockwood) Macgowen. 2) Ellen Slater died4989 1 Mar 1888, at 2229 Emerald street, Philadelphia, and her funeral6038 was to take place 4 Mar, 1888, at 2229 Emerald street, Philadelphia. "2229 Emerald St," Philadelphia, is the address6032 of Clark and "Clarissey" Alkins in the 1900 census, and is the address of Clark Alkins listed in the Phila. City directory1735 from 1886 to 1900. The death certificate4989 for Clarisa Alkins lists Claria's parents as James and Clarisa (Lockwood) McGowan. 3) Though it may be circumstantial, Ellen Slater's association with both Elizabeth Ferris and Clarisa Alkins corroborates the assumption that Ellen was the sister of those two women.

McGowan5615 has only spouse "? Slater." Donermeyer797 has Ellen born abt 1816, Mamaroneck, Westchester, NY; married Thomas R Slater (born ~1810). Information regarding Thomas Slater, and children Mary and Sarah Frances, is based solely on the assumption that Ellen McGowan was a daughter of James McGowan and married Thomas Slater. \tab
