The death certificate4989 for Mary E Clarke, born Jun 27, 1856, New York, lists her parents as "Janes" W McCard and Jane Magowan. The marriage date and place are assumed from Mary's birthdate.
James' name and birth place appears in the 1919 death certificate4989 for Mary E Clarke, which lists her parents as "Janes" (assumed to intend James) W McCard and Jane Macgowan, both born New York. Corroboration for his name may be the name of his oldest son, James Wallace McCard.
In 1850, Phebe J McGowan, age 15, resided5554 in Stockport, NY, in the household of Clarissa McGowan, age 60, along with Clarissa McGowan, age 20. All three were listed as born in New York. In 1855, Jane P Mcgowan, age 20, resided5555 in Stockport, in the household of Clarissa Mcgowen, listed as Clarissa's child. Her full name is assumed from those entries. That 1855 census indicates that Clarissa and Jane Magowen were residents only 2 years, which conflicts with their appearance in the 1850 census in Stockport. It may be that they moved from Stockport shortly after 1850, and moved back to Stockport about 1853.
In the 1870 census2279 for Philadelphia, it seems that Jane appears twice: as Jane McCard, with children Mary, Emma, Wallace and John (McCard), residing in the household of Clark Alkins, her brother-in-law (enumerated June 25); and as Jane "Lynn," apparently the wife of Alfred Lynn, with children Mary, Emma and Wallace, next door to Clark and "Clarency" Alkins (enumerated Nov 17.) The ages of Mary, Emma and Wallace, are the same in both occurrences. The death certificate4989 for Mary E Clarke, born Jun 27, 1856, in New York, lists her parents as "Janes" (typo?) McCard, b NY, and Jane Macgowan, b NY. From that information it appears that Jane married first James W McCard, and married second, between June and November 1870, Alfred Linn.
Jane P Linn died4989 Dec 20, 1892, age 58, married, a resident of 1812 Hazzard St; she was buried Dec 24, 1892, in North Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Child 2. Emma
Emma appears twice in the 18702279 census for Philadelphia, PA. In a 25 Jun enumeration, she appears in the family of Jane McCard, living in the household of Clark Alkins. In a 17 Nov enumeration, she appears in the family of Alfred Lynn (assumed wife Jane, assumed mother of Emma).
In the 1900 census6032 for Philadelphia, the household of Clark and Claressey Alkins included Emma Vandergrift, "niece," born Mar 1857, and Albert Vandergrift, "nephew," born Feb 1886.
Child 3. James
Wallace appears twice in the 1870 census2279 for Philadelphia at age 9: as Wallace McCard, child of Jane McCard, in June; and as Wallace Lynn, child of Jane Lynn, in November. In the 1880 census4877 for Philadelphia, James W MacCard, age 19, born New York, appears as "step-son" to Alfred Linn, whose wife is Jane Linn. James' full name is assumed from that information.
