Family of Seymour C WILLIAMSON and Annetta BENNETT

Seymour C WILLIAMSON b. 18385649 at Wheeler, NY5650. d. 1918 May 215650 at Canisteo, NY5650. bd. Riverside Cem., Cameron, NY5649.
Annetta BENNETT b. 1845 Sep5652 at New York5652. d. 1923 May 305655 at home of her daughter Mrs D H Travis, Canisteo, NY5655. bd. Woodlawn Cem., Canisteo, NY.

Married5651 1887~5652. An article about the Williamson family5651 states the second wife of Dr Seymour C Williamson was Annetta Chadwick, "who resided near Canisteo." The 1900 census5652 lists Seymour and Annette Williamson as married 13 years.

McGowan5582 has Seymour C Williamson md Elizabeth Reese.

In an 1873 land ownership map5716 for Cameron, NY, "S C Williamson" is shown on the northeast corner of what is now Canisteo River Road and Depot Street.

In 1880, S C Williamson, age 42, b NY, a tin peddler, resided5613 in the household of Ruth Lawrence, a widow, in the dwelling 2 listings below Seymour's father, David Williamson. David Williamson was also listed as a tin peddler that year.

A Williamson family history article5651, the obituary5650 for Dr Seymour C Williamson, and records, combine to provide a life story for Seymour Williamson. He was born about 1838 in Wheeler, NY, to David and Elizabeth Williamson. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to a farm on Oak Hill, near Oregon (NY). In 1865, the family moved again to West Cameron, NY.

In about 1875, Seymour ran a general store in Cameron, and later was a salesman in Ohio and Michigan for the Allison Boot and Shoe Company. He then graduated from the New York Medical College and began a practice in Canisteo.. About 1864, he married first Mary Elizabeth Reese, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Reese of Cameron, by whom he had a son Fred (Frederick) D Williamson. He married second, about 1887, Annetta Chadwick, elsewhere identified as the widow of E V Chadwick, maiden name Bennett.

Dr Seymour C Williamson was a medical doctor and served as coroner from 1905 to 1908. He was survived by his widow, one son Dr Fred Williamson, a step-son and two step-daughters. Those step-children are elsewhere identified as the son and daughters of his second wife by E V Chadwick, Annette Bennett Chadwick Williamson, viz.: Annette Chadwick Jeffers, Martha (Mart) Chadwick Travis, and Burg Chadwick.

Annette's maiden name, parents and previous marriage is derived from several records. Her obituary5655 mentions daughters Mrs D H Travis and Mrs A L Jeffers, and son Dr Burt Chadwick. The 1911 marriage record1728 for Mart Chadiwck (age 35) to David H Travis lists Mart's parents as E V Chadwick and Annette Bennett. The 1880 census5654 for Canisteo, NY, lists Annett Chadwick, age 36, divorced, as daughter of Alonzo and Christiana Bennett. Residing with her were daughters Nettie and Martha (age 4). Martha Chadwick, born ~1876, in that census, is almost certainly the Mart Chadwick, born ~1876, in the cited marriage record. From that information, it is assumed that Seymour Williamson's wife was Annette Bennett, dau of Alonzo and Christiana Bennett, previsouly married to and divorced from E V Chadwick.

Confirming those assumptions, the obituary of Mrs Christiana Bennett (Canisteo Times, Thu, Oct 3, 1935; www.fultonhistory.com), in a column "Canisteo News 39 Years Ago," reprinted from the Canisteo Times of Oct 1, 1896, mentions Christiana's husband Alonzo Bennett, father Elias Stephens, and (among others) surviving daughter Mrs S C Williamson. Coincidently, that same article mentions the marriage, at the home of Dr and Mrs S C Williamson, of Miss Annette Chadwick, daughter of Mrs Williamson, to Albert Jeffers.
