Samuel was a master mariner. A passport application645 (Feb 12, 1920) lists his father, his birthdate and birthplace, as well as other interesting information. That application was for travel to France, the object of the visit to be to "bring back to the United States the American schooner Lucia P Dow." A testament letter included in that application states that it was "urgent that Captain Veazie be away at the earliest moment as the vessel is laying in the port of Marseilles with full crew on pay … detained by reason of not having a Master to bring her to the United States, the former Captain" being ill. Prior to the date of the application, Samuel had never resided outside the U.S., "except as master of an American vessel." He listed his occupation as "Ship Master" on that document.

For the sake of interest, the 891 ton, four-masted schooner (with engine) SV Lucia P Dow, built Rockland, ME, in 1919, was scuttled off Back Cove, Halifax Harbour in 1960.

History of Islesboro2979 provides Zylpha's middle name. Following her father's death in 1854, Sylpha J Hatch is living (1860) with her mother Ann C Hatch, and her sister Lizzie.

Child 2. Azubah

Farrow has birth date 1877 Mar 30. In 1900, her birthdate is given as May 1874, which is more consistent with other records. Hillman800 provides her middle name.

The Boston Daily Globe (Wed, Jun 24,1891, newspaperarchive.com) lists Zuba L Veazie as a graduate of the Allston School that day. In 1900 and 1910, Zuba was living with her parents and was a milliner. In 1920, Zuba L Veazie boarded1735 at 78 Ossipee Rd, Somerville, MA, the same address as Samuel L Veazie in that directory. In 1940, Zuba was a servant in the household of Frank Ladd, widower. She died unmarried.

Child 3. Brina

Islesboro History2979 has only that Brina, dau of Samuel and Zilpha, died age 6 m. Her birthyear is just a guess.
