Family of Ephraim EVANS and Ezuba Ann BRAND

Ephraim EVANS b. 1830~4038 at New York4038. d. 1869~2533.
Ezuba Ann BRAND b. 1830~5536 at Steuben Co., NY5536.

Married5534 1852~5534. In 1855, Ephraim and Ezuba Evans appear5534 as husband and wife, with a daughter age 2. Their marriage year is estimated from their daughter's age.

In census records, Ephraim is listed as a farmer.

In 1850, Ephraim resided4038 in Bath, NY, with his parents and his younger siblings Betsy, Elisha, and Mahala. By 1855, he had married as he appears5534 in the census that year in Bath, NY, with wife Ezuba A, and 2 year-old daughter "Aman." In the 1860 census5813 for Bath, NY, E Evans, Enuta A, Amy E, Henry E and Amos E are listed as a family unit, 2 dwellings below the household of H and Hannah Evans, Elisha, Mahala, and N J Green. From ages, names, and proximity, it is assumed that the former household is Ephraim and his family, and the latter are his father, mother, and siblings.

In 1865, Ephraim Evans, and wife Ezuba A (mother of 3) resided in Bath, with their children Amy, Henry and Amos. Residing in the same dwelling were Lewis Margeson, "B in law," and Betsey Margeson (mother of 2), "Sister." The 2 children of Lewis and Betsey, Alonzo and Mahala A Margeson, are listed as nephew and niece respectively.

It is assumed that Ephraim died about 1869, as he is not found in the 1870 census, and his son David is listed in 1870 as born in September.

The obituary{super 5815} for Ephraim's daughter Amy ("Mrs George Cole") mentions among her survivors, two half-sisters, Mrs Jennie McMullen and Mrs Angelo Merena. That seems to indicate that Ephraim had two wives, of which Ezuba was the first.

Ann appears variously in records as Ezuba A (and other spellings similar to Ezuba) and Ann. The social security application3346 for son David B Evans lists his parents as "Eprin" Evans and Ann Brand. Her full name is assumed from those documents.

Child 2. Henry

In 1880, Henry resided1084 with his widowed mother, and was listed as "works for carpenter."

Child 3. Amos

Amos Ephraim Evans was found dead5816 by passing children on the porch of his home, shortly before noon on Sep 3, 1929. He had been an invalid for some time, following surgical amputation of both legs. His obituary mentions his birthdate, identifying him as the son of Ephraim and Ann Evans. He was, for many years, a fireman and engineer at the Bath Electric and Light Power plant. He was survived by a sister, Mrs Mahala Marenes, a brother David B, and several nieces and nephews.

Child 4. David

In the 1870 census, enumerated 25 Jul, David is listed as born in "Sept." The social security application3346 for David B Evans, lists his parents as "Ephrin" Evans and Ann Brand. That document also provides his birth date and place.
