Family of Daniel MCMULLEN and Nancy Jennie GREEN

Daniel MCMULLEN b. 1846 Jun3001 at Seneca Co., NY5820. d. 1903 Aug 95821 at Buffalo, NY5821.
Nancy Jennie GREEN b. 1848~5534 at Steuben Co., NY5534. d. 1933 Jul 315822 at 643 William, Buffalo, NY5822.

Married3001 1870~ at prob New York. Daniel and Jennie McMullen appear as husband and wife in the 1875 census5820. In the 1900 census3001 they are listed as married 29 years. They appear as apparent husband and wife in the 1870 census2533 for Bath, NY. In 1930, Jennie McMullen, widowed, is listed as married age 21. Their approximate marriage year, and location of their marriage, is estimated from that information.

Daniel McMullen was born3001 5820 in June, 1846, Seneca County, NY.

Daniel's military history provides convenient ties among his parents, siblings, and wife Jennie. I.e., The 1890 veterans schedule5823 lists his service with Co. L, 8th New York artillery. That records also lists his address as 20 North Ogden St., Buffalo, NY. That is the street address at which Daniel resided3001 in 1900, with wife Jennie. Town records5299 list Daniel McMullen with the same service, and provide Daniel's parents (Andrew and Mary Ann), along with a listing for Andrew McMullen, same location and parents. That information ties to the 1850 census5824 for Java, New York, near Elba, NY, for the household of Andrew and Mary McMullen, which includes their son Andrew as mentioned in the town clerk records.

Daniel was an engineer for the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad. He died5821 in 1903 in Buffalo, New York.

Nancy J Green was the "adopted daughter"5534 of Henry and Hannah (Lane) Evans. She resided with Henry and Hannah in 1855, 1860 and 1865, listed in 1855 and 1865 as "adopted daughter." Her parents have, as yet, been identified.

The 1916 obituary5815 for "Mrs George Cole" (therein identified as Amy Evans, daughter of Ephraim Evans), mentions surviving half-sister, "Mrs Jennie McMullen, of Buffalo." From that mention, one finds "Jenny McMullen," age 26, born Steuben county, in the 1875 census5820 for Buffalo. Jenny is listed as the wife of Daniel McMullen, with children Lizzie and James. Death certificate information2188 for Elizabeth Cody, who died Oct 15, 1844, age 71, in Detroit, Michigan, lists her parents as Daniel McMullen and Jenny Green. From that, and other corroborating information, it is assumed that the "Jenny McMullen" mentioned in the obituary of Mrs George Cole is the adopted daughter of Henry and Hannah Lane. The characterization of Jenny McMullen as a "half-sister," rather than "aunt" or similar, is likely due to the difference in age between Nancy and other children of Henry and Hannah Evans.

In 1870, Dan and Jane McMullen worked2533 in an hotel in Bath, New York. By 1875, they had moved5820 to Buffalo, where they resided until their deaths.

Following Daniel's death5821 in 1903, Jennie continued to reside at 20 North Ogden St in Buffalo for many years, running a boarding house.

Jennie McMullen died5822 Jul 31, 1933, at 643 William, Buffalo, NY, at the age of 85. The 1933 city directory1735 for Buffalo, NY, lists Mrs Mary McMullen at 643 William. Mary McMullen may been an in-law of husband Daniel.

Child 2. Joseph

In 1875, the son of Daniel and Jennie McMullen, age 1 month, is listed5820 as "James." In 1880, Joseph McMullen, age 7, is listed1978 as their son. Because Jennie McMullen is listed3001 in the 1900 census as mother of 2, 2 living, it is assumed that the son listed in the 1875 census is the same as the son in the 1880 census.
