Married5613 1864~5613. Elisha and Charlotte Evans appear5613 in 1880 as husband and wife. There daughter is listed as age 15, and their marriage year is estimated from that information.
A Steuben County, New York, message board post5561 provides a biography of Elisha H Evans, taken from "Presidents, Soldiers & Statesmen," Volume II, Steuben Edition. The extract is unsourced, and his birth date given therein (Jun 13, 1838) is later than other records indicate.
The Corning (NY) Journal, Mar 17, 1881, reported that Elisha Evans, "of Cameron," had secured $800 back pension money. The Steuben Advocate (Bath, NY), Jan 9, 1884, in a list of pensioners of Steuben County, lists in Cameron: "Evans, Elisha H chr diarr &c … $4 00" (assumed to indicate 'chronic diarrhea etc.') The Hammondsport Herald, Wed, Feb 12, 1902 (www.fultonhistory.com), among pensions increased, lists Elisha H Evans, "of South Howard," raised from $6 to $12, dating from May 29, 1899.
Elisha Evans died5560 Sep 27, 1907, at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Bath, New York, at the age of 70, of pulmonary --- (illeg). He was a widower, and a farmer. His father's and mother's names, both originally listed as "Unknown," were overwritten with "Henry Evans," and "--- Lane" (?faint) respectively. His body was removed to Cameron, NY, by (undertaker) F H Smith, of Cameron, NY.
Charlotte's parents are indicated in the 1865 census5536 for Bath, NY, for the household of Benjamin and Sarah Lane, in which are listed Elisha H Evans, "S in law," and Charlotte Evans, "Dau."
