Family of George NORVELL and Jane SOUTHERLAND

George NORVELL d. bef 18005857.
Jane SOUTHERLAND d. 1834 Mar 145863 at Cornwall, NY5863.

Married5845. The will5845 of David Southerland mentions daughter Jane "Norvill, wife of George Norvill," providing Jane's maiden name and husband's name.

George Norvel appears5611 in the 1790 census for New Cornwall, Orange county, New York. He is mentioned in the will5845 of David Southerland "of Cornwall," signed Jun 25, 1799, as the husband of David's daughter "Jane Norvill." He does not appear in the 1800 census, but his wife "Jane Norvel" does appear5857 in New Cornwall, living adjacent to or near Joseph and William "Sutherland," likely her brothers mentioned in David Southerland's will. From that information, it is assumed that George Norvell died after Jun 25, 1799, and before the 1800 enumeration of New Cornwall, New York.

The will5845 of David Southerland, signed Jun 25, 1799, Cornwall, New York, mentions daughters Latissha Moor (wife of William Moor), Jane Norvill (wife of George Norvill), Preully(?) Hanvy (wife of Joseph Hanvy), Sarah and Susanna. Jane was bequeathed land between the land of Lattisha Moor and William Southerland. The will5846 of Jane Norvell of Cornwall, New York, makes a bequest to her son William of land adjoining a lot belonging to Letitia More. It is assumed that the land described was the land she inherited from her father David Southerland.

The will of Jane Norvell mentions "son William"; William's "son Charly"; William's "son Edward & his daughter Jane"; Jane's "daughter Mary Fisher"; Mary Fisher's "child"; Jane's "daughter Rachel Jones"; Jane's "daughter Rachel's three daughters, Mary, Louis[sic] & Ann;" Rachel's "two son David and Walter"; and Jane's daughter "Sarah Sargent."

In the probate5863 of Jane Norvell's will, son William deposed that she "died sometime in March 1834." Peter Fisher, Mary (Norvell) Fisher's husband, was administrator of the estate, and his petition for probate, dated 16 Jan 1835, Cornwall, NY, states Jane Norvel died "14 Mar last of [consumption], at her own house in Cornwall."
