In 1880, Millard is listed as a Master Mariner.

In 1910, Emily appears both in Islesboro (only person in family for which she is "head") and in Guilford, in the household of her son-in-law John Foulkes. In 1920 and 1930, Emily is living with her son-in-law John Foulks and her daughter Lunetta.
