Both Joseph and Mabel were residents of Rockland at the time of their marriage. It is assumed they were married there.

In 1860, with both his parents dead, Joseph, age 7, lived in the household of Caleb and Susan P Young, his grandparents. In 1870, Joseph, apprentice to shoe and book maker, is listed in the household of Abner Bills, a boot and shoe manufacturer. In 1877, he was a foreman¹⁷³⁵ at 255 Main st, and resided at 2 Corson lane, Rockland, ME. In 1892, he was a boot and shoemaker⁴³²⁶, with a shop at 7 Myrtle (Rockland, ME), with a house at 6 Berkeley. In 1900, 1910 and 1920 he is listed as a shoe or boot maker, or cobbler, with his own shop. In 1920, Joseph, listed as a widower, has listed in his household his son Fred, Fred's wife Grace, and Fred's daughter Katherine. Suspiciously, there is an 1880 census listing in Rockland for Joseph Veazie (teamster) and wife Abbie S., both age 27, but both born Canada and all parents born in Canada.

Mabel married²³¹⁷ first in Rockland, ME, 1896 Dec 23, Oscar A Tolman, the son of Isaac H and Ava J (Arey) Tolman of S Thomaston. That record lists Mabel's age, birthplace and parents. In 1910, Mabel Tolman was living³⁰²² with her parents, listed as married for 10 years. However, she and Oscar must have divorced as Oscar married "H G Latty" or "Lamb" in 1907. Oscar married Eva F Springer in 1929. The 1930 census for "Mabel E Veazie," age 52, lists her as a widow, married first at age 19, or about 1897. Perhaps she and Oscar divorced as he is also listed as marrying H G Lamb in 1907 and he appears in later censuses with spouse Gertrude.

Mabel E Veazie is listed in the 1935 Rockland directory, widow of Joseph J, house at 35 Orange. In 1938, she is at the same address.
