Family of John (Jack) Harmon SHAVER and Virginia Rae MCGOWAN

John (Jack) Harmon SHAVER b. 1922 May 24⁹² at Scranton, PA⁴⁶²³. d. 1998 Feb 15⁹² at Avon, New York⁹². bd. Avon Cem., Avon, New York³¹⁴.
Virginia Rae MCGOWAN b. 1925 May 27¹²¹⁸ at house on corner of Pulteney and Sly, Corning, NY²⁴⁴⁸. d. 2006 May 12 at her home in Avon, New York¹²¹⁸. bd. Avon Cem., Avon, New York¹²¹⁸.

Married¹²¹⁴ 1949 Aug 21¹²¹⁴ at the Grace Methodist Church, Corning, New York¹²¹⁴. John and Ginny were married by Rev. Earl Winters. Ginny's sister Marilyn was her Maid of Honor.

A "John Shaver," age 7, the grandson of John and Anna Bartosch, appears in the 1930 census¹²¹⁵ for Scranton. Among the daughters of John and Anna is Dorothy Bartosch, age 32, listed as divorced. Refer to the notes for John's mother for further information.

Jack served¹²¹⁴ four years in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War Two as a Quarter Master³¹⁴ in the European, African, North Atlantic, Asian, South Pacific and Mediterranean theaters, before becoming a State Trooper for the state of New York in 1946.

Following Jack's retirement⁴⁶²³ from the New York State Troopers in 1973, he worked as a security expert, and was the chief of security at Genesee Hospital in Rochester, NY, for 10 years. He retired from that position in 1984.
