Dorothy VESEY b. 1727 Sep 242852 at Braintree, MA2852.

Married389 1745 Dec 5389 at Christ Church, Braintree, MA389. Mayflower Descendant389, V37:3. Records of Christ Church [Braintree/Quincy, Mass.] Transcribed by Warren Parker. Christ Chruch Marriages. "1745 Dec 5 Joseph Coit of Boston & Dorothy Vesey.

Joseph Coit was born854 Oct 23, 1721, the son of Job Coit. Joseph was baptized989 at the church in Brattle Square, Oct 29, 1721. Hillman800 has Joseph Coit baptized at the Brattle Street Church, Boston, 14 April, 1717, referencing Boston Churches, Brattle Street Church, p. 143, #1043. That appears to be an error, using the baptism date of Joseph's brother, as that same reference989 has, under the reference to original page 137 (page 47 of the reference), individual 737. "Job Coit. 14 April 1717. Job Coit." As mentioned above, individual 1043, page 143 of the original records, has "1043. Joseph Coit. [October 29. 1721] Job Coit." Boston Inhabitants4502 has children of Job Coit and Lydia Amey/Aimee: Nathaniel, Job, John, Joseph, Nanny, Lydia (died young), Elizabeth, and Lydia.

Referencing Suffolk Deeds, Boston Inhabitants4502 has Joseph involved in transactions as late as 1753. Hillman800 mentions a sale of a portion of Joseph's property by father-in-law (Benjamin Vesey), Sept 1762, indicating Joseph's death must have occurred prior to that date.

"Dorathy(sic) the daughter of Benjamin Vesey & Dorathy his wife was born 24th. Day of September 1727."2852 Dorothy was bapt.4096 Christ Ch., Braintree, MA, Dec 31, 1727.

Child 1. Dorothy

"Dorithy Coyt," daughter of Joseph & "Dorithy," was baptized854 at Christ Church (Old North Church), Boston, Aug 30, 1746.

"Miss Dorothy Coit"944 died Feb 17, 1818, at the age of 75 years (cem. Rec. "73" years.) Assumed to be the dau of Joseph and Dorothy (Vesey) Coit, given the location of her death, and approx. birth year.

Child 2. Joseph

A gravestone in Cobb's Hill Burial Ground936 reads: "Joseph Coit / Son of Mr / Joseph & Mrs / Dorothy Coit / Died July 17th / 1748 / Aged 8 Weeks." Joseph "of Joseph & Deborah(sic) Coit" was baptized989 May 22, 1748, at the Brattle Square Church. Considering the date and place, it appears that "Deborah" is an error in the original record or a mistransciption of Dorothy. Sprague841 does not mention this Joseph Coit.

Child 3. Elizabeth

A tombstone in the Cobb's Hill Burial Ground936 reads: "Elizabeth Coit / Dau'r of Mr / Joseph & Mrs / Dorothy Coit / Aged One Month / Died Aug't Ye 24th / 1749." Sprague841 does not mention Elizabeth Coit as their child.

Child 4. Mary

From Boston, Mass., records989: Brattle Square Church (baptisms) p 87: "1750 Dec’r 23 Mary of Joseph Coit." Sprague841 does not mention Mary as a child of Joseph Coit.
