Married841 1808 Aug 30800 at Freeport, ME800. Sprague841 states only that Rev Veazie "married Phebe Bartol." Hillman800 provides the date and place of the marriage of Samuel Veazie and Phebe Bartol.

Orcutt4927, p 328, provides a succinct biography for Samuel Veazie. Samuel succeeded James Blake Howe as a teacher in the brick schoolhouse built on Meeting-House Hill in 1796. Taking an interest in the ministry, he graduated Harvard in 1800. His graduation in 1800 was also noted in the Quinquennial Catalogue of the Officers and Graduates (Harvard, books.google.com), "Catalogus Harvardianus," 1836.

The (Portland, Maine) Gazette, Mon, Dec 22, 1806, Vol: IX, issue: 36, p 3 (genealogybank.com) reported Rev. Veazie's ordination: "Ordination. On the 10th inst. Was ordained to the pastoral charge of the christian society in Freeport, the Rev. Samuel Veazie. The Introductory Prayer was by the Rev. Mr. Weston, of Gray - The Sermon was preached by the Rev Mr. Foster of Cambridge, from I. Thessalonians, 5, 12, 13 - The Ordaining Prayer was by the Rev. Mr. Herrick, of Durham. The Charge was given by the Rev. Mr. Eaton, of Harpswell. The Right Hand of Fellowship, by the Rev. Mr. Jenks, of Bath; and the Concluding Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Miltimore, of Falmouth."

Orcutt continues: Not long thereafter, Samuel's health began to fail and he was confined to the house where he lived. During a particularly fierce snowstorm, the house caughter fire, and he was removed with difficulty to a neighboring house. It appears that event hastened his death, as he died the next day, Feb 6, 1809.

The History of Bowdoin College: With Biographical Sketches .., regarding Charles Soule, notes that Rev Samuel Veazie (Harvard College, 1800) settled in Freeport (Maine), married Miss Bartol, and soon after died. "His young widow" married in 1824 that Charles Soule.

A death notice4225 in the Columbian Centinel (Massachusetts) appear in Feb 18, 1809, for Rev. Samuel Veazie, who died in Freeport, "6th inst.," aged 30. The (Portland, Maine) Weekly Eastern Argus, Thu, Feb 23, 1809, Vol:VI, issue:286, p 3 (genealogybank.com) has "DEATHS. At Freeport, on the 6th inst., the Rev. Samuel Veazie, aged 29, pastor of the first parish in that town." [identical notice: Freeman's Friend (Portland, Maine), Sat, Feb 25, 1809]

His tombstone840 in First Parish Cemetery, Freeport, Maine, reads: "Sacred / to the memory of the / Rev Samuel Veazie / who died Feb. 6, 1809 / in the thirtieth year / of his age."

Hillman800 provides Phebe's birthdate and parents, referencing Freeport VR, 1789-1895, p 7, FHL #10917.

Following Samuel Veazie's death, Phebe Veazie married2317 second Aug 15, 1824, in Freeport, ME, Charles Soule. Their marriage was reported in Zion's Herald (www.genealogybank.com) (Boston, MA), Wed, Oct 6, 1824, p 3: "At Freeport, Rev. Charles Soule, of Belfast, to Mrs. Thebe(sic) Veazie." Charles was, at first, a minister, but, for health reasons, he became a teacher. Phebe and Charles Soule had 2 children: Martha (died young), and Ellen P E Soule, born ~1829. Charles and Phebe resided4587 in 1850 in Portland, ME. In 1860, they are likely the couple who resided4926 in Amherst, ME, enumerated as "Charles Sole," age 65, occ: "clerge c,o,n,g," and "Pheby B Z" Sole, age 73.

Charles died2489 June 1, or840 May 31, 1869, in Portland2489 of consumption. Daughter Ellen married Edward P Banks. In 1870, Phebe Soule resided4589 in the household of Edward and Ellen Banks, along with their children.
