Family of Stephen S FOYE and Rhoda S VEAZIE

Stephen S FOYE b. 1809 Sep2015 at Rye, NH2015. d. 1879 Feb 272956 at Weymouth, MA2956.
Rhoda S VEAZIE b. 1815~886 at Braintree, MA841. d. 1842 Mar 23886 at Weymouth, MA886.

Married859 1833 Apr 3859 at Braintree, MA859.

Stephen's place of birth is listed2015 with the birth record of his daughter (by his second wife Clarissa) Mary E.

The identity of Stephen's mother isn't clear. His death record2956 has his parents as "William & Hannah (Seaver)." The informant for that information wasn't recorded. A William Foye married in Rye, New Hampsire2484 1) Feb 23, 1795, Hannah Seavey; md 2) Nov 15, 1804, Hannah Rand. The cemetery monument840 in the Foye Family Ground, Rye, NH, has (from the image), all on the same stone: William Foye, died Aug 28, 1824, age 50; Hannah Foye, died Nov 14, 1803, age 27; and Hannah Foye, died April 14, 1850, age 69.

Reflecting that information, "The History of the Town of Rye, New Hampshire"5298, p 353, the family of William Foye, has William Foye married 1) Hannah Seavey and 2) Hannah Rand. Regarding children named Stephen, that history has Stephen, by William's first wife, bapt May 5, 1799, d age 4 years. In children by William's second wife - only "Stephen." It was not unusual for a child to be named the same as another child if the first of that name died young, before the birth of the second of that name.

Many of the records referenced herein indicate that Stephen was born about 1809 in Rye, New Hampshire. If Hannah (Seavey) Foye died in 1803, then she was not Stephen's mother. From that and the information above, pending other data to the contrary, it is assmed that his mother's maiden name given in his death record is in error, and Stephen Foye was the son of William Foye, of Rye, New Hampshire, and William's second wife, Hannah nee Rand.

Braintree records have marriage date for Stephen S Foy and Rhoda S Veazie as both April 1 and April 3, 1833.

Following Rhoda's death, Stephen (mechanic/carpenter) married second Jan 14, 1844, Clarissa B Hewitt, by Rev Jonas Perkins, Braintree Minister of the Gospel. The place of the marriage isn't clearly indicated in the Weymouth records and they were married by a Braintree minister. Weymouth is assumed as their marriage doesn't appear in Bates'2852 Braintree records.

Clarissa was born (Canton, MA) Aug, 1813 (Weymouth V1:110, V2:271). The children of Stephen and Clarissa Foy recorded in Weymouth records (Weymouth V1:110): Adelaide Hewitt, b Dec 20, 1844; Mary E, b Mar 8, 1849; Sarah Maria, b Jan 27, 1847; William D, b Feb 23, 1848, d May 7, 1849. An additional child, Martha N Foye, age 2, assumed to be their daughter, appears in the 1855 census4230 in their household. In 1860, Annie Foye, age 3, appears929 in their household.

In 1850, Stephen and Clarissa resided889 in Weymouth, MA, with his children Samuel S, Adelaide H, Sarah M, and Mary C.

Stephen died in Weymouth at the age of 69y 5m 5d, of "chorea"(sic).

In an affidavit5241 by Rhoda's sister, Phebe (Veazie) Sherman, Phebe mentioned surviving children of her sister Rhoda: Samuel S Foy and Ellen R Nightingale.

Rhoda S' death: 2 entries2956 - Mar 23, 1842 and Mar 24, 1843; both age 27.

Child 1. WilliamWilliam's birth/death: died2956 Sep 5, 1835, age 7m.

Child 2. Samuel

Samuel's birth and baptism dates are in conflict. I.e., Weymouth births2015 has "s. Stephen S and Rhoda," birth Dec 16, 1837. But Samuel Stephens Foy, "child of Mr Foy & his wife Rhoda," was baptised Sept 3, 1837, Quincy, MA.
