Bennet is probably the son of Garry[sic] and Polly Gillette, with whom "Bennett" was living in 1850. Garry was born abt 1788, and Polly was born abt 1797. Bennet Gillette is living with or in the next dwelling to Garry and Polly in 1850, 1860 and 1870. Bennett married first Betsey Sutfille, dau of Thomas & Eunice Hurd Sutliffe. Bennett and Betsey Gillette, along with a young son Wllie (age 5), resided in Prospect, CT, in 1860. Betsey died in 1866. As Bennett and Betsey married in 1857, if Willie's age is correct, it may imply that Bennet had a previous marriage. Bennett married second Mary Elizabeth Sears. Their marriage date is implied by src 956, though it lists only her date of marriage, not her husband's name. For that, src 957 lists DAR member 67935 as Mary E Sears Gillette (Mrs Bennett), of East Hampton. In addition, src 958 states Mary married Bennett Gillette.
