Family of William J LENNON and Dorothy E BARTOSCH

William J LENNON d. 1949 Feb 201321 at his home on River Road, Van Buren, New York1321. bd. St Francis Xavier Cem., Marcellus, New York1321.
Dorothy E BARTOSCH b. 1898~1215 at Pennsylvania1215. d. 1984 Sep 231217 at the Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, New York1217. bd. St Francis Xavier Cem., Memphis, New York1217.

Married1217 1930 (after)1215. Their marriage took place sometime after 19301215, as Dorothy is listed as divorced (from first husband John Shaver) in that census record.

William's obituary1321 mentions that he was a farmer and a World War I veteran. He was survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters Anna D and Florence M Lennon; sons William J Lennon, Jr, and Trooper John H Shaver; brother Thomas Lennon; sisters Mrs. Frank Lee, Mrs. Joseph Byrne and Mrs. Leon Tuff; and a grandson William J Lennon, 3rd. He was buried with military honors.

The wedding announcement1214 for Dorothy's son Jack Shaver to Ginny McGowan mentions Jack's father, the "late John Shaver," and mother, "Mrs. Dorothy Lennon." An indication of her maiden name is given in a later (1963) newspaper article1216 which mentions Dorothy E Lennon visiting, among others, her brothers Theodore and Edward Bartosch, and her son "Trooper John Shaver" and family.

Dorothy's parents were determined from a search for Dorothy Bartosch which leads to the 1930 census1215 for Scranton, mentioned in the notes for her son John (Jack) Shaver. The family of John (head) and Anna Bartosch (wife) lists Dorothy Bartosch, daughter, marriage status "Divorced," along with John Shaver, grandson, age 7. Although Dorothy's brother Theodore is not listed in that record, her brother Edward, age 20, is.

Further, Dorothy E Lennon's obituary1217 mentions that she was survived (among others) by two sons, John Shaver and William Lennon, Jr. That article thus corroborates the 1930 census mentioned, and provides the first name for Dorothy's second husband. Additionally, at least one newspaper article1320 in 1948 mentions "Trooper John Shaver" visiting the home of his parents "Mr. and Mrs. William Lennon."
