This is Alnwick
Castle, second largest in Europe.
Baron Iro de Vescy originally owned it in 1095, and passed it down,
under controversial conditions, until the 12th Century. In 1297, William de
Vescy died,
leaving no legitimate heir, and the castle was placed in the care of the Bishop
of Durham.
In 1309, the bishop sold the castle and accompanying estates to Henry Percy.
It is still maintained today by the Percy family and is one of the most beautiful
castles in England.
