During the Civil War, Abner served3192 in Co H of the First Wisconsin Inf. His widow, Olive Mitchell, filed for his pension Feb 24, 1893 (certificate 464,747).

The Civil War pension card3192 for Olive Mitchell, widow of Abner H Mitchell, has her death date as Dec 23, 1913, with the remarks: "Oscar A Mitchell, Gdn." The death certificate5244 for Olive Mitchell has her date of death as Dec 22, 1913. She died in State Hospital #2, St Joseph, MO, of arteriosclerosis, contributed to by "senility." Sadly, that certificate has her personal data (birth, parents, etc.) all "unknown," except for her age which is listed as 71 overwritten with 81. She was buried Dec 23, 1913, in Clinton, MO.
