Married5024. In the 1865 census5024 for Catlin, NY, John and Rachel Sturdevant appear as husband and wife.
At present, there is no conclusive evidence that the husband of Rachel Lee Sturtevant was named "Jonathan." His name is given as Jonathan herein from an unsourced family group sheet5579 by Earle McGowan.
The will5957 of Obadiah Lee, signed June 10, 1850, mentions, among his children, a daughter Rachel. The petition5960 for the probate of her father's will, signed Oct 8, 1855, mentions daughter Rachel Sturtevant(sic) as deceased, providing a late date for her death. I.e., it is assumed she was alive in 1850, and died prior to Oct, 1855.
That petition5959 5960 lists the children of Rachel Sturtevant as: Luman ("Seeman" in the typewritten version) Sturtevant of Fishkill, Dutchess Co.; Niles Sturtevant, Rebecca Mosier, Elizabeth Mosier, Obadiah Sturtevant, and Sarah Ellen Daniels (residences unknown); Julia Ann Ireland of Phillipstown, Putnam County; and Thomas Sturtevant (a minor).
The 1850 census5962 for (indexed as) Fishkill, New York, lists the household of Luman Sturdevant, age 25, born NY, in the town of East Fishkill. Residing in Luman's household were Rachel Sturdevant, age 49, born NY. Also listed were Robert Sturdevant, age 34, born NY; Sarah A Daniel?, age 17, b NY; and Thomas Sturdevant, age 10, born NY. Pending more conclusive information, it is assumed that the referenced Rachel Sturdevant of that census record is the mother of Luman, Robert, Sarah and Thomas of that census, and she is Rachel Lee, daughter of Obadiah Lee.
Child 3. Niles
"Niles" Sturtevant is mentioned in the petition for probate5959 5960 for Obadiah Lee's will as a child of Rachel (Lee) Sturtevant, among others including Luman and Obadiah Sturtevant, Sarah Daniels and Thomas Sturdevant. No records or references have been found for a "Niles" Sturdevant.
Considering the possibility that the "Niles" Sturtevant went by another name, one finds, in the 1850 census for East Fishkill, NY, a Robert ("Robt") Sturdevant, age 34, born NY, resided in the household of Luman Sturdevant, along with Rachel Sturdevant (Luman's mother?), Sarah Daniel(s?), and Thomas Sturdevant. In the 1860 census for Owego, NY, a Robert N Sturdevant, age 40, b NY, who appears with (assumed) wife Emily, and (assumed) children Martha, Eliza and Rachel. An Obadiah Sturdevant was also enumerated in Owego in that census.
The above information, which is only circumstantial, indicates the possibility that Niles Sturtevant may be Robert (Niles) Sturdevant.
Child 4. Elizabeth
The 1855 petition5959 for probate of Obadiah Lee's will mentions Elizabeth Mosier as a child of Rachel (Lee) Sturtevant, deceased daughter of Obadiah Lee. The 1901 obituary5955 for Luman B Sturdevant (also mentioned in the petition as a son of Rachel Sturdevant) mentions surviving sister Elizabeth Mosier of Taylor Hill, PA.
Child 6. Sarah
The petition for probate5959{\5960} of the will of Obadiah Lee mentions Rachel Sturtevant(sic) as a daughter of Obadiah. Among the children of Rachel Sturtevant listed therein is Sarah Ellen Daniels (residence unknown).
