Gustave was at various times a shoemaker, and a dry goods merchant at the Veazie store in Coopers Plains (Erwin Twp), NY.
His name is given on his headstone as "Gustavus." He is mentioned in records variously as Stephen, Gustavus, Gustave, and Stephen G. Predominantly it is Gustave. Stephen Gustavus and brother Charles Horatio were executors369 of their father's will.
His obituary3327 states that he removed from Caton to Coopers Plains about 1880. Later, he went to Bolivar, Allegany Co. From there he moved to Kansas where he bought a farm. However, because his health was failing, he returned to Corning, NY, in the fall of 1887.
In 1882, Stephen G Veazie bought part of lot 55 in Bolivar, Allegany county, New York, from Sylvenus M and Sophie J Rugg for $132. The lot was situated adjacent to Pleasant Avenue and lands of the Bradford, Eldred & Cuba Railroad. The deed was signed by the Ruggs, 27 May 1882. [familysearch.org; Allegany county, New York, deeds; v129:425] In 1883, S G Veazie purchased from Sylvanus Rugg a part of lot 55 in Bolivar, adjacent to the corner of Pleasant Avenue and Main Street. That deed was signed by Rugg 5 Feb 1883. [Deeds v133:16] In 1886, Roselia Veazie of Bolivar bought part of lot 55 in Bolivar from Frank Jerram and his wife Sarah Jerram, and William S Sage and hi wife Lillie Sage, of Southport, Chemung county. Deed signed 7 Apr 1886. [Deeds 139:197]
Gustave died at the age of 42, of consumption.
Anna Rocelia Bowman Veazie appears variously as Rocelia, Roselia, Rosalie, Rozelia, and Anna R.
Rocelia was a witness to the will369 of Stephen Veazie (Stephen Gustavus' father) in 1881. Rocelia lived with her parents until her marriage. The Warren (PA) Evening Democrat, Sept 20, 1895, mentions that Mrs S G Veazie and Miss Nettie Veazie, of Elmira, were guests of Mrs G W Thompson, Hazel Street. Following Gustavus' death, she ran a boarding house (1900) in Horseheads, NY. Rocelia, sometime between 1900 and 1910, moved to Joplin, Missouri, and lived with her son-in-law Bernard Healy and her daughter Nettie. She died437 in 1920 at her daughter's home, 116 Pearl St, Joplin, MO, of cerebral hemorraghe. She is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Caton, NY.
