Gustave was at various times a shoemaker, and a dry goods merchant at the Veazie store in Coopers Plains (Erwin Twp), NY.
His name is given on his headstone as "Gustavus." He is mentioned in records variously as Stephen, Gustavus, Gustave, and Stephen G. Predominantly it is Gustave. Stephen Gustavus and brother Charles Horatio were executors369 of their father's will.
His obituary3327 states that he removed from Caton to Coopers Plains about 1880. Later, he went to Bolivar, Allegany Co. From there he moved to Kansas where he bought a farm. However, because his health was failing, he returned to Corning, NY, in the fall of 1887.
Gustave died at the age of 42, of consumption.
Rocelia was a witness to the will of Stephen Veazie (Stephen Gustavus' father) in 1881. Rocelia lived with her parents until her marriage. Following Gustavus' death, she ran a boarding house (1900). The Warren (PA) Evening Democrat, Sept 20, 1895, mentions that Mrs S G Veazie and Miss Nettie Veazie, of Elmira, were guests of Mrs G W Thompson, Hazel Street. Anne, sometime between 1900 and 1910, moved to Joplin, Missouri, and lived with her son-in-law Bernard Healy and her daughter Nettie. She died at her daughter's home of cerebral hemorraghe.
