Gaius was a Revolutionary soldier in 1776, residing in Braintree. He later moved to Quincy. He was a surveyor of lumber, as well as other wood-working actvities.

In an affidavit⁴⁸²⁸, deposed Jul 25, 1864, Rachel Urann identifies herself as the widow of Joseph Urann, late of Boston; she was born Apr 22, 1789, and was 75 yrs of age at the time of that affidavit. Rachel was the daughter of Sarah (Veazie) Thayer, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Veazie. Her father was Gaius Thayer.
