Thomas Barkley emigrated²⁵⁴⁹ to Oakland County, Michigan, in 1827, and settled west of Wing Lake. Thomas died a widower¹⁵²⁰ at the age of 77y 3 m 36 d. Note that his age at death is rather unusual as it is more common for the number of days to be in the range of 0 to 31. However, his birthdate calculated from that information matches Moffat's information. His death record lists his parents as Thomas and Sarah Barkley.

Moore²⁵¹⁶ says of Mary Crawford, wife of Thomas Barkley: "daughter of Samuel S Crawford, descended from James, I." The "I." refers to his enumeration earlier in that article of James Crawford, Sr, who married Mary Wilkin. Moore does not otherwise identity Samuel S Crawford.

Mary's death record¹⁵²⁰ lists her parents as Samuel and Margaret Crawford, res New York.

Michigan Death Records²¹⁸⁸ lists Joshiah T Barkley as the son of Thomas Barkley, mother's maiden name Crawford. In 1880¹²⁸², Joshia and Robert W C Barkley, both listed as "Brother," are listed in the household of Samuel Barkley. Josiah's death record¹⁶⁶⁴ states he died single. His birth date is calculated from his age at death: 78y 10m 23d.
