Edwin appears in some records as "Edward." E.g., Painseville Telegraph, Wed, Aug 18, 1847, "Married Painesville last Thursday, Edward Vesey, of Perry, and Miss Angeline Merriman, of Painesville."

Edwin's birthplace is provided⁴⁶¹³ by his granddaughter Hattie (Trombly) Shaner. Hattie was the informant for Rosaline (Vesey) Trombly's death certificate, which lists Rosaline's parents and their birthplaces.

Edwin doesn't appear in censuses until 1850. The determination of Edwin's parents is an assumption made from his location in that year's census, his age, birthplace, and the birthplaces of his parents as listed in the 1880 census²¹⁸⁴. I.e., he lived in Painseville, adjacent to Perry, OH, where Jonathan and Sophia raised their family. He was born ~1822; he was born in Ohio, his father was born Vermont, and his mother Connecticut. His birthdate fits well between the date of Jonathan and Sophia's marriage and their son Salmon's birthdate. Jonathan was born in Vermont and Sophia in Connecticut.

Edwin served⁸⁰⁰ in the 24th Michigan Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. That unit fought in Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and other sites, and was selected as escort at the funeral of Abraham Lincoln.
